Question:
Actually, that’s rather interesting, George. In that show I mentioned where the pro was showing how to hit the driver off the deck, I specifically remember him saying that modern driver’s have a lower center of gravity than older ones. Consequently, it would be easier to hit a modern driver without a tee than an older, wooden driver. Was it practically possible to hit a ball off the deck with the old, wooden drivers (I’ve heard about the anthill "tee" — I’m talking about just dropping the ball onto the fairway and swinging away)?
DRIVERS VARY. OLD PERSIMMON HAD LESS OPTIONS FOR LOWER C/G, EXCEPT I HAD A BRASSIE 30 YEARS AGO THAT I LOVED WITH A BRASS SOLE PLATE. I HAVE NEVER HIT THE BALL AS GOOD WITH ANY CLUB SINCE I LOST THAT. George. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Because the center of gravity is so high on most driver faces. That’s the reason for your "six feet" trajectory. the idea point of impact is higher on a driver than on an iron, for the reason that the c/g IS higher and in dynamic optimum position for all things driver. A high center of percussion means that a ball struck below that level will be launched lower. A ball struck higher than the c/p will be launched higher. George Before you buy.
