Question:
I agree that these balls become off white or yellowish after a while. Anyone ever notice that these balls (softfeel) put up quite a bit of resistance when they are in the ball washers ? I had two of them in those ball washers that have a crank on the side. Maybe that’s they check up on the greens so well. Alvin
: That’s the ball I play (and keep playing) : Good distance when you nail it, checks up when : you wedge it onto the green. : Only complaint is that it doesn’t stay pure white for long. : (I can live with that. It’s even resisted the cartpath test!) : — : Teresa Williamson : roll call: http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/williamsont.htm : RSG FAQ: http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html
: Try the Maxfli HT (gold box) 3 piece urethane cover. This ball has great : feel : and spin plus is very durable as well. : John Davis

I too am in search of "my" ball. Lately (as I’ve _also_ found my swing), I’m spinning balls off the green (even with 6 irons). I don’t like this… Plus the durability is becoming an issue. Every hit takes off thin, hair like pieces of the cover. I’m sure this affects the flight after a couple of holes. I am looking for a ball that essentially sticks where it hits (on moderately workable greens). That way, you can play strictly yardage without having to guess how far it will release or worse yet, how far it will spin back. My latest ball trial is the Titleist Tour Distance 100. This seems to be working well (for now). HP Eclipse doesn’t "feel" quite right. Will also try the HP Tour. Mark – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -And I do still like the spin on it, even though I spun back off the green three or four times. I guess I now have to learn how to hit those shots with less spin, so they’ll release instead of sucking back. But it’s a nice problem to have.

Gee, Mike, maybe you now need to switch to a Pinnacle
Before you buy.

Mike, I glad the Rule 35’s work for you. I’m giving up on them myself. I just came back from a mini golf vacation. I played three days straight with essentially identical weather each day. Each nine holes, I switched balls and used three different types: 1) Rule 35 soft feel, 2) Nike Distance control, 3) Titleist DT. Off the tee, I didn’t see a whole lot of difference between the three. I wasn’t really tracking the distance on each shot, but came away with the impression that the Nike was a little longer than the other two, but not enough that it made me want to go out and buy a few boxes. I really had no gripes about the Rule 35 off the tee. As far as stopping power around the greens, Rule 35 was the best by a long shot. No surprises there. But the thing that got me about the Rule 35’s that I really didn’t like was the distance I lost on my irons. I found easily a 1.5 club difference between the Callaways and the other two. For me, that’s a deal killer. I don’t much care if a drive goes 250 vs 260, but I care a lot if I can hit a six iron rather than a four iron from the same distance. For the forseeable future, I’m going to stick with the big bag of used Titleists I bought off eBay. Kenny – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I’m recanting everything I said before about the Rule 35 not being very long, or at least having to give up distance for the spin. The swing’s the thing, and I’m now getting significantly longer distance with the ball as my swing has improved. I’m now getting 135-140 out of my 9 iron, and I nuked a 5-iron today well over 200 yards (I was 184 out in one on a par 5, after the longest drive ever on this hole, and the nuked 5 iron put me over and left, and I ended up bogey :<). When I first switched to MP-14 irons in May, I was figuring on about 125 yards with my 9 iron. Now that I’ve learned to hit them, I’ve picked up 10-15 yards. I’m no longer concerned at all about the distance with the Callaways. In fact, today I tried out a new driver I built last night (for a long story on that, see the "Problem Solved" post). I hit longest drives ever on several holes, indicating it’s the equipment match to my swing that’s the issue, not the ball. I had a 275-yard drive, and some in the 230-240 range that had they not been uphill, would have well exceeded 250. And I do still like the spin on it, even though I spun back off the green three or four times.
