Question:
I agree, this looks much more realistic than most stats I’ve seen. At the local range where I hit alot of balls, there is a row of trees that line up about 15 yds past the farthest flag. The flag is marked at 264 yds. I’ve only seen one person put the ball into the trees and very few make the last flag routinely. I’ve made the last flag twice in a year despite aiming about 50 balls a week at it. My consistant drive is about 215 to 220. This is actually encouraging to me!
Yes… but we have a culvert/cart path that is 230 yards from our lower tee. I can land old range ball after old range ball a bit short of it with my 3w. One day the pro brought out some brand spanking new range balls and gave me a double bucket full. Most of those landed well on the other side of the culvert/cart path. My point is, some balls fly farther than others… and game balls often fly alot further than worn out old range balls. dsc

Bruce, If I may disagree, I actually hit most of shots (at least the clubs I use for listed distances) are more in line with the average men’s distances. Also, keep in mind that the lofts of my numbered irons are in line with 1969 standards. Give me a set of same irons with strong lofts and I’ll be smacking them even further….. Now if I could just get the technique polished, I’ll be set (those lessons are coming at the end of the month.) — Teresa Williamson roll call: http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/williamsont.htm RSG FAQ: http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html Am I and the guys I play with THAT far off? [Ladies, care to correct my observation that the posted ladies distances are about 20 yds too long?] Subtracting the occasional "AWFUL" shot, when I hit a solid shot my distances are something like: 1w 250, 3w 225, 5w 210, 7w 195 3i 195, 4i 185, 5i 175, 6i 165, 7i 155, 8i 145, 9i 135, PW 125, SW 110, LW 80 [The 3i is in the closet most of the time.] I may be a bit longer than average non-RSGer but not much. I would bet that most men who can hit a 6i 160 cannot hit a 1i 190. The trouble with a table like this is that as swingspeed goes down, the distance deltas at the top of the range of irons also goes down – to the point where many can hit 3w as far as 1w and 4i as far as 3i or 2i. Because my swingspeed has lessened with the years I have to be wary of my ‘macho-memory’ gene that tells me to get a El Super-Stiffo shaft and an 8 degree driver head. If I do, I’ll lose distance. I’ve gone from X flexes to S flexes in the woods and from S flexes to R flexes in the irons and in retirement am only about 5% shorter than when in my mid-thirties.
