Question:
In digging through some old golf bags I came across a wooden golf ball. It had a hole drilled in it (larger exit point) with the remains of a piece of string or twine inside. I suspect at one time the twine was pretty long and someone would hit the ball and "reel it in". I never recall seeing wooden golf balls – anyone have an idea how old this is? /steve

Probably not very. It sounds like a ball that was part of a small practice device: hit the wood ball attached to a short length of string and it spins on an axis. I did however go to high school with a guy named "Woodall" that we called "Wood Balls." Does any of this help?
