Question:
I’m not disagreeing with you that he can be an OK guy, but I bet someone could come up with a nice Scott Hoch story too
Perhaps the folks at the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital in Orlando could help. I seem to recall Hoch donating a large portion ($100K) of his winner’s check to them in Las Vegas in 1989.

Golf is a gentleman’s sport, but apparently a few who participate in this group are don’t fall into this category. Therefore, I will regress myself….So, SFB you moron. Perhaps you didn’t understand that I was asking if someone could tell me what happened between Tiger and Fluff. I wasn’t offering to explain it to everyone. Yes, we know the story so don’t bother telling us again. Does anyone know the story on how Fluff and Tiger parted ways and how Steve Williams ended up replacing Fluff? Thanks in advance!!! Here’s the real reason Fluff got canned. Fluff, hard at work on Tiger’s bag: http://members.aol.com/annika1980//fluff.jpg You see, that damned Tiger headcover started complaining.

In a nutshell, Fluff was becoming a bit of a star in his own right. Call it the Jimmy Johnson/Jerry Jones complex. Dave Clary/Corpus Christi,TX
And thus Fluff became a verb as in " he was Fluffed", (Butch Harmon). David

In certain circles, ‘fluffed’ was already a verb. — http://www.rec-sport-golf.com/members/?rollcall=hayesd http://rec-sport-golf.com/newsgroup/charter.html If this post does not meet the goals of the charter, please email me.

With regard to Stevie, I happened to witness a kid asking him for his autograph. Stevie explained that he doesn’t do autographs, but he’d be happy to give the kid one of Tiger’s golf balls on the condition that the kid had to catch it. He tossed the ball as easily as he could, but the kid choked and muffed it. Stevie tossed it again and this time the kid made the grab and now owns a Nike TW ball with TIGER printed on the side of it. Go ask that kid or that kid’s parents if Stevie is a jerk. Sometimes when you are in the position that Stevie and Tiger are in you have to act like a jerk. If you constantly get poked by pens when walking through a crowd, you’ll tend to speed up and get through a little quicker without stopping to chat with the thousands of people following you. Some might even think you are acting like a jerk. Doesn’t make you a jerk, though.
What you describe is passive jerkism, while what I have heard reported is active jerkism. If you’re in a hurry to get through the line, that’s your right, though hard to fathom sometimes, given the examples shown by the great athletes of the past. But throwing someones camera in the water during a pro-am is still a little over the top. It actually would have been better to talk to the marshals and get him thrown out, or at least the camera confiscated rather than take an active role yourself. I’m not disagreeing with you that he can be an OK guy, but I bet someone could come up with a nice Scott Hoch story too

"Stevie" is known by all around the PGA as one of the largest jerks you will ever encounter (except, of course, to his boss). My experience has been the opposite. Here’s a photo I took of Stevie tossing a ball to a fan at the PGA: http://members.aol.com/annika1980//tosser.jpg Do a little searching about his behaviour in a pro-am a couple of weeks ago, re: a spectator using a camera for an example. I’m sure this made Stevie even more popular among the tour pros.

"Fluff" was and is a top flight caddy. He was apparently always there for TW and never let him show up on the first tee with 15 clubs… However, supposedly Fluff’s off-hours included some non-G rated activities which, if you were a sponsor or handler of TW, might make someone nervous about a possible ‘image’ problem. How reluctant TW was in letting Fluff go is unknown – except to maybe a very few. {He certainly wasn’t unemployed long!} "Stevie", on the other hand, is virtually invisible by comparison and a superb caddy as well. His off-hours pursuits are more private and, since a lot of them are in New Zealand during breaks and the off-season, the American press isn’t around should he ever do something to tarnish the TW empire. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Part of it is that, like you did here, the caddie became known by a single nickname, aided in no small part by the caddie himself. Cowan made sure he rode the coattails and was in the limelight as well, signing auographs, etc. (A caddy’s autograph? I don’t understand autographs to begin with, and not to demean the person, but the caddy? C’mon.)
