What putter grip do you use?

Question:

Reverse overlap, left index finger pointing down (not resting in the crease between other fingers), right index finger in close to the middle finger. No glove. I switched to a cross hand grip (aka, front hand low) about 2 years ago. I considered myself a better than average putter, but sometimes missed long putts badly because my wrists would break down and I would ‘flick’ the putter at the ball. The cross hand grip helps prevent the wrists from breaking down and my long putts are much more accurate now. One caveat, when I first switched I left EVERY putt short, even 1 footers. This proved to me that even on short putts I had been unconsciously using my wrists. There has not been a tremendous overall improvement in my putting since the change, except in a reduction of 3 putts from long distance. Once I learned to control the speed with the cross hand grip I held a much better line on long putts, getting the ball closer to the hole and so having much easier second putts. Plus, a few more medium length and an occasional long one does drop. — Dan Driscoll Member USGA, NCGA RSG FAQ: http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html RSG Roll Call http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/driscolld.htm

I have no idea if my grip has a name, but I put grip with the last three fingers of the left hand, with the thumb straight down the shaft. I then grip with the right hand, thumb down the shaft. And my left index finger lays on top of my right hand ring finger. My check point is that the first knuckle of the left finger is on the middle knuckle of the ring finger. <shrug Just feels good… Thanks, Tony Harmon "A golfer with great dreams, can accomplish great things." — Bob Rotella "A day without hitting golf balls, is a day longer to getting better" — Ben Hogan "The average golfer’s problem is not so much a lack of ability as it is a lack of knowing what he should do." — Ben Hogan

Cross handed, ten finger, thumbs on flat part of grip, both index fingers pointing straight down shaft. dsc

I am not a great putter.  I have experimented with every grip known to man and a couple that are secret only to me.  I keep coming back to the "standard" Vardon grip with my right index finger pointing down the shaft. I have found that this works best for "me".  Every one is different and what works for one might not work for someone else.  The last 10 rounds I have been averaging 32 putts. Don D.
