So i’ve heard, Thor. But i’ll be buggered if i’m changing my game to suit every new fad. They are even coming up with molds that put little bumps in them.

5-1/4 Status of an ‘X-out’ Ball Q. ‘X-out’ is the common name used for a golf ball which a manufacturer considers to be imperfect and has, therefore, crossed out the brand name on the golf ball. What is the status of an ‘X-out’ ball? A. The vast majority of ‘X-out’ balls are rejected for aesthetic reasons only, i.e., paint or printing errors. In the absence of strong evidence to suggest that an ‘X-out’ ball does not conform to the Rules, it is permissible for such a ball to be used. However, in a competition where the Committee has adopted the condition that the ball the player uses must be named on the List of Conforming Golf Balls (see Note to Rule 5-1), an ‘X-out’ ball may not be used, even if the ball in question (without the X’s) does appear on the List. (New) ******* I’ll be darned….I didn’t know this one. Just looked it up on the USGA website. I will still buy X-outs for casual play but I guess I won’t show up at a tournament with them! Not that I ever enter tournaments … :-) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – was that because they were x-outs or because the brand itself was non-conforming? They were Pinnacle X-outs, and they were non-conforming because they they were X-outs. Had to go into the pro shop & mortgage my first born in order to buy some "conforming" balls. DSA Top Flite 2000 Red Box, $14 per doz. 7 handicap. All X-outs, regardless of brand, are non-conforming. was that because they were x-outs or because the brand itself was non-conforming?

Response:
I usually play titleist professionals because my home course has hard greens and get more spin with them. If it is a wet damp day I use more of a distance ball because the wet greens will hold the ball anyway.

What type of ball do you use and why. I use a 2 peice ball at about $20 a dozen and play to a 5hcp. Are the $40 a dozen realy better. I feel like I`m just giving alot of money to Tiger for nothing.
I use Topflite,or Slaz Raw Distance when i can get them, i’ve also been know to paint small round stones white if i can find the right size, the harder the ball the better i like it, i play a course with small, hard greens where bump and run is the prefered style of play (i play to a 10) bud remember no good deed ever goes unpunished "Nemo me impune lacessit" Before you buy.

Titleist HP2 Tour (preferred about $ 26/dozen), sometimes Tour Distance 100s (alternates – Dramjet’s cast offs!) or Professionals. Have also messed around with the Top-Flite Spin Ball a little last year just because I don’t think you can touch anything else near it for $18 a fifteen pack. Did I say fifteen pack? Cat’s out of the bag guys, I have a confession to make. I bought them at Target, not a real golf shop. Will you still read this without judging me differently?

Titleist Tour Distance 100 About $30/doz. Best combination of feel, distance and spin
I like softer, spin balls. I buy Titleist Professional X-outs at <$20.00 when I’m in the US. Or Maxfli Revolution X -outs. Prices are about half the first run balls, and there are only cosmetic differences. I found Maxfli XS Control to have good feel, at reasonable prices. Precept Spin balls feel good on the putter, but seem very fragile, scuffing VERY easily.

If you want to send less money to Tigerist ( :-) ), buy Titleist X-outs….$9.99 a dozen…nothing wrong with them except cosmetic blemishes… Tim

I’m playing Titleist DT Wound 90. Good feel, decent amount of spin but still have a bit of durability to them. — Alan

I agree with you. I normally play a Topflight XL or something similar. I guess that you can say that I’m a "value" golfer. I’d like to know how many fewer strokes our fellow RSGers attribute to playing a premium ball.
