Question:

I love golf and I am 57…I recently was inflicted with Ischemic Optic Neuropathy. It basically wipes some of your nerve endings and affects your peripheral vision. I can still drive a car. When you use your driver and hit a long ball…I have trouble finding the ball after I hit it if I am playing by myself. I had one suggestion from a friend to use one of the better range finders  (expensive) or colored golf balls but haven’t tried either suggestion yet. Does anyone else suffer from this problem and what do you do when you play golf alone?  Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks..Gary Boyer

Your post reminded me of an interview with a blind golfer. His wife used to accompany him, taking him to his ball and pointing him in the right direction for his next shot.  There was one hole, on his regular course, which he had played successfully a number of times without realising that there was water all the way down the left.  His companion remarked one day that he had done well not to put his ball in the water and ever since then his tee shot has gone left into the water. On the matter of locating balls, the only advice I can give to anybody on looking for their ball is – go to where you think the ball finished and then go back 30 yards.  I’m not sure if this advice will help help you though.
