Ammo *storage* isn’t a problem, but ammo *supply* might be: Buicks aren’t thick on the ground in Texas. In fact, the guys that build the really big trebuchets all share the same ‘67 Riviera: it’s what they’re calibrated to. For sustained bombardments, early-’70s El Dorados are the ammo of choice: you give up some range, but they fly straighter than the more common Chevy pickups. Do a search for Backyard ballistics. They cover spud guns really well and have links to various trebuchet and other launcher sites. I especially like the link to the Punkin Chunkin site. That’s an annual contest to see who can throw a pumpkin the furthest. IIRC, the record is well over half a mile. 900 yards is not feasible on a golf coarse. 200 yards and under would be just right. Accuracy would make up for the occasional 200 yard short comings.
