Response:

Ammo *storage* isn’t a problem, but ammo *supply* might be: Buicks aren’t thick on the ground in Texas. In fact, the guys that build the really big trebuchets all share the same ‘67 Riviera: it’s what they’re calibrated to. For sustained bombardments, early-’70s El Dorados are the ammo of choice: you give up some range, but they fly straighter than the more common Chevy pickups. To any of you that are building the trebuchet from the American Woodworker article, I have made some discoveries on weights and ammunition. 1.  Golf balls are just about the perfect size and weight.  The trebuchet throws them in a nice high arc. 2.  I currently have about 5 lbs. of bird shot in the counter-weight bucket. This weight throws the golf balls about 20 yards.  I am going to increase the weights by another pound.

Extreme sports = Extreme boredom and ignorance of safety precautions and lacking any foresight.  Sorry, just my opinion.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone see the news clip of the UK Extreme Sports Club accident a couple of weeks back?  They had a good-sized trebuchet that they were using to launch people with.  The landing area was a big safety net similar to that used for high-wire acts at the circus. For some reason they bound the "ammunition’s" arms and legs before lauching them.  Unfortunately the subject of the news clip was a young lady that hit the net – and then rebounded off and over the edge of the net hitting the ground some 20′ below.  Broke her pelvis according to the report on the tube. Do a search for Backyard ballistics. They cover spud guns really well and have links to various trebuchet and other launcher sites. I especially like the link to the Punkin Chunkin site. That’s an annual contest to see who can throw a pumpkin the furthest. IIRC, the record is well over half a mile. 900 yards is not feasible on a golf coarse.  200 yards and under would be just right.  Accuracy would make up for the occasional 200 yard short comings.  Power down for the short shots. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Get it to throw the golf ball about 200 yards and take IT and your putter to the golf coarse.  Leave your other clubs at home.
