Question:
advantages/disadvantages? pros/cons? experience? who are they best for?
Response:
I used to play them. They are a distance ball. Probably best for someone looking for more distance off the tee. I’d compare them to the Titleist DT Distance and others. I play a ball with more spin now as distance is not a concern for me (like most RSG posters I hit my lob wedge about 240). Art

I used to play them until I found the Maxfli Revolutions. Good off the tee, absolutely nasty on the green. Can’t putt with them. For some reason, made this "ping" sound coming off my putter face, and I just couldn’t get it into the hole. Revs were much better, and altho the revs were shorter in terms of distance, I’d trade the lack of distance for every hole with one (or more) putts Before you buy.

Ahhh…my cup of tea! I’ve still got a couple of sleeves around somewhere… This ball is intended to have low driver spin so that it hooks or slices less than the typical distance ball…This is accomplished mostly by the internal weight distribution I think. The principal really works… but my experience was that this ball isn’t very good at it. It has a realitively soft feel and putts very nicely, and it does well in the distance dept…But it did little to straighten out my tendancy to slice… There are TWO balls I’ve found that actually WORK pretty well in that dept…Wilson’s Pro Staff Bimetal "Control" is very straight, but also very short…Titleist’ HP-2 Distance is my choice and what I currently play. I’d say it’s easily 10 -15 yards longer than the prostaff ball…Both have a soft lively feel, the pro-staffs are incredibly CHEAP…(12.99 a doz!) But if you can afford them, the titleists are the BEST I’ve found in this type of ball. ]]]Z[[[

My local driving range/pro shop is having a sale on the HP2 Distance balls, at $16 a dozen, Zamuel. They've marked them as "stock overruns", whatever that's supposed to mean. But they're new HP2s at a good price, so I'm not complaining. They do play very well out on the course. -- Don Porter Newspaper Reporter & Webmaster Web Page: http://www.datacruz.com/~dporter

That's a great price...those are unpackaged "bulk" balls? Normal price is $32 - $35 a doz...I think. I'm playing logo over-runs mostly... ]]]Z[[[

My work league gives them away as prizes, but I don’t care for them too much. Better than the Rock Flite XLs they used to give, though. One of the guys in my Sunday group likes ‘em, and his new company stocked up on Titleist Professionals with their logo to give to customers. He offered them as trade, and I was prepared to give 2 Staffs for each Pro, but he gave me one for one! Hopefully I can win a few more sleeves in our league. I’d go buy some Staffs at the store, but he might get suspicious when they didn’t have our company logo on them.

Don… Do you know if the HP distance special is being offered anywhere else in your area? Right, 12 new HP2s in a plastic bag, all new Zamuel. The range/golf shop where I got them (Bobick’s Golf Center in Mishawaka, Ind.) sells a lot of Titlist equipment, so maybe they got some special deal on them. No fancy cardboard sleeves, but I can live without that. This is also one of the few places I’ve seen that uses Titlist range balls. Nice change from the normal Pinnacles. — Don Porter Newspaper Reporter & Webmaster Web Page: http://www.datacruz.com/~dporter

Not that I’m aware of, RJ. I think it was some special deal between Titlist and the shop where I bought them, Bobick’s Golf Center in Mishawaka, Ind. The next time I’m in there, I’ll ask about it. — Don Porter Newspaper Reporter & Webmaster Web Page: http://www.datacruz.com/~dporter
