Are you increasing cardio or weight training? Cheers, Nina – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Beth, You say you’re riding your bike 6 days a week, and if I recall correctly, you ride for extremely long jaunts, yes? Have you tried cutting *back* on the aerobic activity? I say this having been a slow-losing chick who was running/walking 5-8 miles a day 6 days a week and losing nothing (and now I do aerobics for 40 minutes, 4 times a week tops) I may be way off base here, as I can’t remember the last exercise thread where we talked about this. "true most heavy people didn’t get that way by only eating steamed rice and veggies in small amounts . If you believe that’s how it happened to you ,then so be it… only you know for sure."
So you KNOW how most heavy people got heavy? You did a study? I DO know that some of the heavier folks I know who do eat alot tried dieting for many many years and failed, and thus gave in. I can’t say I blame them – if you get no results starving yourself, you might as well eat cake. " MOST of us did not have a slow metabolism or thyroid problem or only ate small salads and steamed rice. As for the in the genes thing I come from a family that are mostly small people and a few that are large so that doesn’t hold water either."
So now your opinion based on your family is more impressive than the results of genetic studies? Debbie, once again your speaking in your little world here – this is what you observed about your family. Its not based on a bigger view of reality. I hear a lot of anger in your post, sounds like you have been hurt many times by some mean people and I ‘m sorry for that but we all have our war stories.
No one has ever called names – probably because I dont’ think I have ever looked "obese", I am hard on myself and always wanted to look like Kate Moss. I just get sick and tired of folks like you telling me if I cut down on cookies and cake I would lose weight. I go through life letting those things roll off my back because if you don’t they will eat you up inside, I try and laugh at myself and not take things so serious when someone make a comment to me about how to diet… I just say or really I’ll have to look into that….NOT… but why get so mad at people it’s not going to change anything. I for one am over weight for these reasons…eating low- cal diets, large amounts of foods, all the wrong
Sweetheart, please don’t try to analyze me. I am not an angry person, I am a very happy person. But I am angry at YOU because your generalizations about how people get fat are just that : generalizations with no foundation in reality. foods…cakes, cookies, breads, pasta etc. and I don’t have any medical reason for it.
I DO have a medical reason for it. And thats NONE of your business. I am sure lots of folks here have medical reasons causing them to be overweight.. I choose NOT to do the blame game thing because I don’t want to be one of those people that lie to myself of how I got this way.
So here you are implying that I am lying to myself about how I got 45 pounds overweight? I think not. I gave up strength training, and that did me in eventually. I quit smoking and had some sugar problems which didn’t help. But for that last year and a half before LCing I exercised daily (cardio) and ate low fat, under 2000 calories a day. I lost three pounds. My husband says he sees heavy weight people putting tons of food on their trays too!… not just salads.
So he is an expert because he saw some fat folks putting tons of food on their trays. He must be almost All I was trying to say was if your implying that heavier people don’t eat that much because of you might see small portions on a tray..think again because maybe they don’t want to be seen in public eating a lot ,like the lady in the book said, she hides her food or eats more than people know because she stops on the way to work for the dozen doughnut’s and for lunch hides out behind Mc Donald’s and then takes back a salad to work so everybody would think GOD she really doesn’t eat that much. She says it made her feel better than for them to know the truth. I for one have never done that and you say you haven’t either. I was just saying some people do.
Thats nice. And some people screw sheep, but most don’t. What does that have to do with the rest of us? The JUST WONDERING THING at the end of that post bothered me because that’s what it’s implying. I thought more people on this site felt the way I do about how we all got here ,if I would have known that wasn’t the case I would NEVER put those words out there BELIEVE me. You can put words into my mouth all you want but I do know what I said and it was not a blanket statement, you might not like what I said but it is true most heavy people didn’t get that way by only eating steamed rice and veggies in small amounts . If you believe that’s how it happened to you ,then so be it… only you know for sure. But MOST of us did not have a slow metabolism or thyroid problem or only ate small salads and steamed rice.
Generalizations are always going to get you into trouble when referring to a very diverse group of people. You are going by *your own* experience, there is no "most of us" unless you can pull out factual statistics. Since you don’t know all of our stories and genetics and medical records, it’s best to not speak in generalizations. Peace, Erika RollerGirl

Beth, You say you’re riding your bike 6 days a week, and if I recall correctly, you ride for extremely long jaunts, yes? Have you tried cutting *back* on the aerobic activity? I say this having been a slow-losing chick who was running/walking 5-8 miles a day 6 days a week and losing nothing (and now I do aerobics for 40 minutes, 4 times a week tops) I may be way off base here, as I can’t remember the last exercise thread where we talked about this. Response:
Actually cycling is how I get to work – its 9 miles each way, (40 minutes total, including lights) and I don’t let my heart rate get wild high like I did in aerobics. On the weekends its common for me to ride 60 miles or more. Its what I do for fun, not fitness anymore. You won’t be able to pry the bike out of my hands until the temperature drops below 15 I am losing nowadays, thanks to the strength training you all talked me into. Made great strides. — -Beth BikeE FX, AT and rans gliss Anchorage, Alaska

Serena and you are understandably oversensitive on this issue because you have both suffered so much in the past. Now don’t go off in a huff
You will understand how Serena feels and there are good reasons why she is more touchy on this subject than you are. What is clear, is just how appallingly cruel people can be to each other and both of you have been victims of this. What is impressive is that neither of you have succumbed to the obvious temptation to be cruel to others in retaliation but have used your experiences to gain a greater understanding of others. — Ev 20/06/2000 168/160/147 If you want a carb counter and a progress chart and have Excel95 or + I have them free at my web site at http://www.znet.freeserve.co.uk/

Okay, let’s not make this personal. There are misunderstandings in both parts here. The statement "but you don’t understand I hear this all the time,I don’t know why I’m so fat I never eat anything and I just want to scream!!! because I don’t
buy it… " stated that she did not buy that the people who made those statements to her never eat anything. And as you said So my message is this: YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT MY REALITY IS. OBVIOUSLY IT IS DIFFERENT THAN YOURS
so the people Debbie knows have a different reality than yours also, and it’s possible that she knows better than us what *their* reality is. She stated in the original post I was not trying to say a blanket statement, I only have my views to go on. Most of the people "I" know are over weight because they eat too much, just like I do.
Please don’t continue to take this so personally. And I don’t mean to imply that this is personal to Beth – I borrowed her statements as an example to everyone who was so upset, not because I was responding to her post only. Wishing EVERYONE harmony AND good low carbing results, Tammy
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m angry because you implied that the reason I got overweight is because I ate cookies and cake, and that I probably lied about how much I ate too. If thats not what you meant, OK, but that IS what you implied. This statement: "but you don’t understand I hear this all the time,I don’t know why I’m so fat I never eat anything and I just want to scream!!! because I don’t buy t… " DOES not say "some" overweight people – it says YOU don’t buy that someone could be fat and not eat very much. Thats exactly what it means. And thats offensive to me. I have friends who are skinny and eat like pigs – mostly men BTW, but a couple of women with great metabolisms. Aren’t they fortunate?. I have friends who are thin and have to watch a little bit and keep active (this sounds like you Debbie) - I would say they have a NORMAL metabolism. I have friends (like me) who have to REALLY watch their intake to just maintain. Aren’t they unfortunate? And your assumption that I must be privately eating like a cow is truly offensive. My boss at my last job said something to me once that really ticked me off. HE was talking about the new olestra potato chips. I was already lc by this time but what he said really pissed me off. He said something to the effect of that he thought it was a disgusting idea, and if you are fat you should just not eat potato chips and then you won’t need olestra free chips. I was furious and asked him if he saw me eating any potato chips. HE replied that he didn’t mean me, that he knew I was very active and ate right and must just have a slow metabolism. Thats when I blew up – he has NO BUSINESS judging other people’s situations that he knows nothing about. No business. Whose to say that most overweight people aren’t overweight because of some genetic factor – thats what the geneticists are saying. I dated a fitness "manager" (he ran the gym program) for a large oil company once. The little bastard didnt’ get it either. Finally, by watching me eat (very little) and work out and struggle to maintain my weight (I was smaller then) he finally one day told me that he felt really bad that he didn’t understand his overweight clients and now he realized that its not so easy for them, not like it is for him. I was proud to have been the overweight folks ambassador and I hope to this day he is more inclined to be understanding that his little slice of reality isnt’ everyones reality. My third and final judgemental asshole story involves my boytoy, who seeing how much work its been for me to lose what I have lost has gently suggested that maybe this weight is good enough.. Its not good enough but he has seen me working out every single day and riding my bike 6 days a week (which will stop soon enough – 26 degrees today) and not lose for 6 weeks at a time and how frustrating it is for me. He has come to the conclusion that perhaps I am made to be a fat girl, and to be honest, he is correct – I think I am genetically predetermined to be a fat chick. HOWEVER I know that i can beat my genetics with weight training and low carb, low cal (don’t ding me, low cal is what works for me ut I eat high fat). But once I lose the weight it will be a struggle to keep it there, NOT like normal skinny folks. So Debbie, when you make blanket statements about fat people, it reminds me of every skinny fucker who told me "I lost 2 pounds just by increasing my walk to 2 miles a day" or "I lost 4 pounds by cutting out cake". I DON’T EAT ANY CAKE (nor have I ever eaten those kinds of things except on special occasions). I have friends who when they hit 30 or had kids finally gained 10-15 pounds and really struggled to lose it because they DIDN’T KNOW HOW. They had never had to diet before – always been slim. These folks are worst with the diet tricks – "just cut out dessert". Pre Atkins the last time I had had dessert was my birthday 11 months before. My mother who has also struggled with her weight all her life taught me well, in fact she turned me on to LC. I know how to diet well, thank you. I don’t need tips from folks who gained an ungodly 20 pounds after getting pregnant or 7 pounds when they turned 30 and think that they are a freakin expert. I used to be skinny and I would eat anything I wanted but I didn’t do it all the time, I think that some….NOT ALL…heavier people think that the skinny person does that kind of thing all the time. I say this because I have heard this too many times. My friend is thin as a rail and she eats only cakes, breads, pasta etc. I don’t think I have ever seen her eat a steak hehe!, but she runs, plays tennis, works out at the gym. That doesn’t mean you all don’t work out…. I’m just saying even though she eats all these carbo foods it’s not in large portions and she works out way more than I do ,I run 3 miles but when I was thin I did way more than that!!! and I think that makes a difference. I know too many family members who think they don’t eat much they will tell you "I don’t know why I’m over weight "I NEVER eat hardly anything….YES YOU DO….now that I’m heavy I know exactly how I got this way .I only mentioned the book because I thought maybe some of you read it …that’s all!!I have read my things too! most of us are not over weight because of a medical condition…very low…something like 5% I think not sure exactly . I was not trying to say a blanket statement, I only have my views to go on. Most of the people "I" know are over weight because they eat too much, just like I do. I have a question for the board, why is everybody sooooo sensitive? come on you need to lighten up we are all in the same boat, I would hope I’m instilled to my own views even if it’s not yours, that’s why I sad at the end of my reply I’m not meaning to upset you, It is NOT my intention. We all have our own way of thinking and this is mine. By the way Chuck is my husband and I’m Debbie ,he set this up for me that’s why his name is on here.
