Question:
when i practice i hit golf balls like a machine gun. this causes me to get tired quickly and after a period of time i get progressively worse. for years i have tried to slow down but to no avail, but if this is your problem maybe there is some hope for you. address each ball is if you were playing real golf. line up the shot, visualise, walk up to the ball ect. taking more time between hits could be what you are looking for. if its not, then it cant hurt anyway. another thing could be boredom. try different shots, change clubs every two hits. hit fades, draws etc. make a little competitoin with yourself. I have recently developed a problem on the driving range (and is slowly beginning to affect my game). I usually try to hit the range at least 3 times a week, and I swing the clubs daily. Lately, when I go to the range, I’ll hit my first 20 or 30 balls very well, but after that I can’t seem to keep the balls in the face of the club and begin to hit every ball off the hosel no matter which club I use. After 20 or 30 more shots like this I still can’t cure the problem, and I leave frustrated as hell… Anyone have any suggestions?

I belive this is a common problem that most people have. I think it is caused bynot thinking about the shot. Recently David Duval improved his game be playing the shots he anticipated playing on the course he was at. In other words, driver then 7iron for the approach shot. Then a 30 foot chip. I thought this made sense because it makes practicing practical. Personally, I tend to hit 30 balls all with one club in a matter of 5 minutes. I believe this is a mistake. Each shot count for something even on the driving range.

Most professionals do this exercise mentally through visualisation rather than actually hitting a driver then a 7 iron on the range. However, anyone who is not a pro would benefit from this exercise as well as practicing your pre-shot routine with every shot hit on the range. F.
