The Casey Martin Rules.

Question:

The PGA did it’s best, let’s say for the sake of argument it’s a done deal, Casey Martin will be allowed to ride a cart for PGA tour events. How the cart gives him an advantage is a moot point at this time. The question now is how to adapt the rules so the other players are not at a disadvantage. Rule 1.  All players shall have the choice between using a cart, or a caddy. If a cart is chosen, the player shall not be allowed the use of any of the caddy’s traditional services. i.e. scouting the course, mapping distances, help in club selection. Rule 2. Carts not allowed in the fairway, or in the rough, only to be driven on cart paths and in spectator areas, so as not to leave tire tracks which could put any other golfer at a disadvantage, or advantage. i.e. at Pebble Beach this year, a golf cart could have left deep tire marks in the fairway, thus preventing continued roll of a shot hit by any golfer following the golfer using the cart. i.e. on any course, tire marks in the rough could flatten down and compact the rough, thereby improving the lie of any golfer following the golfer using the cart. Rule 3. Any golfer using a cart shall not sit in the cart for any length of time other than the time required to get from the site of one shot to the site of the next. He shall stand outside the cart while waiting to hit. Rule 4. No golf cart shall have a top, nor a windshield. The golfer shall be exposed to all of the same elements as any golfer not using a cart. On rainy days the golfer using the cart may hold his own umbrella while driving the cart. Rule 5. No golfer using a cart shall carry anything in the cart which would not normally be found in his golf bag, had he been walking and using a caddy. Let’s face it folks, it’s a done deal. Lets stop beating a dead horse, shall we? Since it’s not fair to change the rules for just one player, we should make these rules general, for everybody, right? Any additions, I’d love to hear them. Post them up here.

: Rule 1.  All players shall have the choice between using a cart, or a : caddy. I’d be against this…mainly because the cart doesn’t help other than to carry your clubs.  A caddie can be used for many other things, like reading putts, judging wind, talking to you, etc., etc. : Rule 2. Carts not allowed in the fairway, or in the rough, only to be : driven on cart paths and in spectator areas, so as not to : leave tire tracks which could put any other golfer at a disadvantage, or : advantage. Path only is the best…second best is fairway only…unless it’s wet. : Rule 3. Any golfer using a cart shall not sit in the cart for any length : of time other than the time required to get from the site of : one shot to the site of the next. He shall stand outside the cart while : waiting to hit. too hard to judge…any player can sit anyway, so it’s moot. : Rule 4. No golf cart shall have a top, nor a windshield. The golfer : shall be exposed to all of the same elements as any golfer not : using a cart. On rainy days the golfer using the cart may hold his own : umbrella while driving the cart. Amen! : Rule 5. No golfer using a cart shall carry anything in the cart which : would not normally be found in his golf bag, had he been : walking and using a caddy. This is an intersting one…I like it. One I’d like to see:  Rule 6. A player using a cart will not be allowed to drive ahead of any          player playing in the group.  This would prevent someone from getting to their ball ahead of anyone  else.  We actually had this rule in the NTGA Mid-Am (they allowed carts  because of extreme heat in July in Texas). How about this addition: Rule 6: No player, fan or mindless, ignorant troll (see Gary, Corby or Sandalio) shall make any posts to RSG regarding any subject remotely related to Casey Martin. — Barry Smith  Binary Data Services – http://www.looksee.com/bds  Buy Sell Trade Golf Clubs – http://www.looksee.com/barry  Internet to Alphanumeric Pager Services – http://www.AlphaBeeper.Com

You are so sad Barry.  Is this what you are reduced to?  Insulting those who have a different opinion than you on an issue?   "they shouldn’t post here if they don’t agree with us.  WAAAAAAAAAA!" Thanks for making it crystal clear how right all of us on the pro-Casey side are.   Why don’t you just listen to the "veterans" of this ng and just drop it already?  Well gotta go, I’m exhausted from all this typing.

I think #3 might be a problem for Casey.  His condition results in blood flowing down to the leg but not back up.  So standing might be as bad as walking.  But I’m not sure if that is the case–does anybody else know? If the PGA loses the appeal, I’d opt for your other suggestions, especially not allowing a caddy.

So? Wouldn’t it have been better if Barry kept his mouth shut instead of making another personal attack or reference?   Perhaps you are the one lacking in comprehension if you are being so one-sided in describing Barry’s rule. Then again, I am not surprised. Gary

Though I believe Casey should walk, we just has  5 excellent suggestions for a remedy (I don’t agree with #1).  And who came up with these suggestions?  Not the government, but every day people. If we’re going to come to a compromise on the Casey issue I want people like this dealing with it for a solution, they present more logic than the government ever could. It’s too bad the PGA Tour officials didn’t come up with the above ideas. Then a suit wouldn’t have been necessary and there might have been alot less posts on this newsgroup. I have no quarrel at all with the above, though I think Martin should be allowed a caddy. Gary

"Pro-Riding"?  Almost as ridiculous as "Pro-Life"…calculated syntax Johnny, calculated syntax…nice try though, however transparent it may be.
