Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Since approx last summer, I’ve been dealing with significant right shoulder pain (I’m a right-handed player) and it seems to be directly related to golf. Sob!! What the heck is going on? Anyone experienced anything like this before? This is my year, folks! At 49 yrs of age, I feel acomin’ on a big downward step function in my scores!! How can I get back to a healthy state? E-mails or posts welcome. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Desperate in Austin, TX!! I’ve had bursitus in the left shoulder. It went away after about 4 months. I played with a 3/4 swing until it went away. I blew out a disk and had to switch to a more handsy swing. My scores and my length improved after the pain subsided (6 months). I currently have tendonitis (sp?) in my right elbow due to splitting firewood over Christmas. I let my right elbow fly a bit and it doesn’t hurt too bad. For all of these injuries, I would always take 3 or 4 practice swings before every shot so the real swing wouldn’t hurt as much. Stretching is crucial and must be done everyday!!!! We can’t just grab the clubs and head to the first tee like we did 20 years ago. Good luck, Bob Dietrich
I suffer from Rheumatoid Arthritis and have almost no pad in my right shoulder. In the summer of 96 a friend gave me a Sabona wristband to try. I can honestly say my pain disappeared. I don’t work for Sabona this isn’t a commercial!! It worked for me and my Rheumatologist said there is some connection between copper and joint pain. give it a try. Hope you find the same relief I did. By the way it’s hell getting

Since approx last summer, I’ve been dealing with significant right shoulder pain (I’m a right-handed player) and it seems to be directly related to golf. Sob!! Played a lot in FL over Christmas and was in really serious pain. Hung ‘em up for six weeks, practiced short game, especially putting and was experienceing marked relief, less pain. Twice went to an ortho surgeon who has suggested strengthening certain muscles that will downward adjust a tendon that basically is undergoing "buristis." So I’m doing these big rubber band exercises. Last week, surgeon gave me a cortisone shot in the shldr and told me I couldn’t make it worse playing golf. Played Friday and went to range Sunday and now OUCCCHH!! What the heck is going on? Anyone experienced anything like this before? This is my year, folks! John, Does it hurt when you lean over a little, let the arm hang down and then move the hand in a little 6" circle? I had a rotator cuff injury last summer and that caused me some pain. My chiropractor told me to take light weights (5lbs) and let my arm hang down and move it in the 6" circle easily. According to my chiro, this kind of rotator cuff injury results from using the muscle to slow down. For example, they would be the muscles used to stop your follow through. This doesn’t mean not to follow through, you always stop your swing somewhere so just try the exercise if the rotator cuff seems to be your problem too. Happy Hitting,

I also had some major pain in my right shoulder with lightning bolts radiating down my arm and up into my neck. Took pain killers but finally gave up and went to surgeon. An MRI showed the rotator cuff was torn–probably from carrying golf bag in same spot for almost 40 years. After 2 1/2 hours of surgery to correct this as well as some other problems I am now pain free. I have slightly reduced mobility in that shoulder–can’t lift it as high as the left one which leads to slightly reduced backswing. I had the surgery a few years ago on Dec 17th and was playing golf in April so I didn’t miss any of the season here in upstate NY. It’s well worth getting MRI if you can. — Wayne Weber W-W Finishing Supplies 38 Partridge Hill, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 1-800-836-8424

Take it from an ex-pro motocross racer with chronic tendonitis of the right bicep. I went to 6 doctors complaining of serious pain in my shoulder. They shot me up with more cortisone than you could imagine. If it doesn’t help don’t take the shots. Go get an MRI on your shoulder and arm. I finally did last year and found out that it was in fact pain that was projecting from my bicep. They had me convinced that I had a bad rotator cuff. I can only imagine having a useless operation. Shoulder op’s are one of the hardest ones to recuperate from. Now I just take some perscription anti-inflammatory that helps a bunch. Get an MRI. Everything else is a guessing waste of time Good Luck, Timbuck
