dynamis golf caddy..remote control…any good?

Question:

Thanks for the info. Don….. Otherwise, I would tell you what the bag is.

It looks ideally suited to my Nike bag….which has all the storage compartments facing forward and only its spine down the back….which is also ideally suited for those super lightweight collapsable pull carts. (I have one). Regarding the belt for steering – you are mistaken.

One of the web sites I visited mentioned two belts..one for steering and one for drive! The solenoid activates horizontally between two steering arms

This sounds simple enough. Could you please tell me if the motor has a drive belt pulley directly on the motor shaft..or is there an intermediate right-angled gearbox involved? There is clearly a drive belt to the rear wheel in a drive set-up similar to a pedal bike chain system…..does the motor have a label with any details on it?  (power, volts, amps, watts, rpm etc?) Many thanks david

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anyone here have any experience with the Dynamis remote control electric golf caddies?? I saw a pro using one of these during this weekend at the VicOpen here in Melbourne, Australia..but unfortunately I was otherwise busy and unable to get a close look at it. I would be interested in a small review and any technical details. I have searched the web for info. and most is from dealers/resellers with links back to the manufacturers (sun mountain) and which do not give much information even with the photos. Two details I have been able to pick up are that the remote control operates on an FM frequency at 49.8 Mhz…and there is a separate  ’belt-drive’ for the steering. This is hard to visualize so if any person could expand on this I would appreciate it…..also, none of the photos show the battery position, it looks as if it might mount close under the the foot of the bag..but this is not clear. Any information, comments and pros and cons would be appreciated.

Don’t have an in-depth review, but played with a guy at Port Fairy in March that had one. It seemed to work very well from within a certain range. It was rather neat than when he went to search for a ball, he could just whistle it up (not literally) and it would head off to where he was. The only negative he said he had was that sometimes the control gets accidentally pressed in his pocket, occasionally without him realising it. Once he was on the 18th green, and looked around to see his buggy heading into the distance straight for the club pro, who was taking a lesson on the practice green. He had to sprint after it, which is probably harder if you’re in the physical state to need a remote controlled buggy. Another time he rescued it as it was about to tumble over a sand dune towards the beach. (Guess that makes it a dune buggy :-) ) Also, a friend at my club has a rather sophisticated German-built electric buggy (worth about A$3-4000) that has the power unit and battery all built-in to the axle. It senses when you start to push it, and applies traction automatically without a switch. Similar thing when you pull it to stop, it just ceases to apply power. But the last I saw he had been waiting six months for a spare part after it broke. So I guess availability of spare parts is an important factor. David, I got my Dynamis this past season.  I put in over 100 rounds with it – they are great. If you go to the site www.sunmountain.com/dynamis/ you will see the picture of a red caddy.  Up in the front you can make out a small black rectangle below the bag – that is the battery.  The bag sits on top of the battery but really doesn’t touch it.  You are correct – it is near the foot of the bag.  There is a bracket that holds the battery and also the bag. It will accommodate any golf bag – but understandably some fit better than others.  I took mine to the golf shop and tried several bags before buying the one that I thought fit the best.  However, one of the handles on the bag broke (no fault of the Dynamis) – so it is on its way back to the manufacturer to be fixed – seeing as it is winter and I am not using it. :-(  Otherwise, I would tell you what the bag is. Regarding the belt for steering – you are mistaken.  The belt is a drive belt.  The steering is done via a solenoid.  You can see it in the same aforementioned picture.  It is right below the battery in the center of the steering arm.  The solenoid activates horizontally between two steering arms.  It is adjustable to correct any over/under steering to make the Dynamis track correctly. The Dynamis has plenty of power to go up inclines.  This of course would be provided you don’t have excessive weight on it.  It is recommended that you keep your bag and contents at no more than 25 pounds total. The traction is also good. It comes with a battery charger and battery.  I have found that it easily brings a complete charge overnight.  However, I have two batteries and alternate between them – thus, insuring that I always have a fully charged battery.  The battery can be left on the charger indefinitely.  Which is good in case you have forgot about it and left it connected.  It uses a wheel chair battery that are readily available. Dynamis has a customer service department that is second to none. There was a problem with the wheels and they replaced mine.  They sent them to me at their expense.  At the end of the year, I sent mine back to Dynamis for a "tune up".  The only cost to me was the shipping one way – about $30.  The caddy was completely overhauled and sent back to me in about two weeks. I previously had a Kangaroo caddy (not remote controlled) and liked it – but, I traded it in on a Dynamis and I am glad I did. The best thing I can say is that they are well built, light weight, great for your health – keeps you walking.  They are also good conversation starters. :-) The only cons I can think of are – you have to be careful with the remote.  The stop go button can be pushed by accident if putting it in your pocket – while on the green etc.  I wish the button had to be pushed twice to start it.  Perhaps I will mention it to them at the PGA show. You can also tip them over if you don’t watch where you are going. This does not happen often as it is stable – but it can and will happen.  It is IMO always caused by "pilot error". :-) The only other complaint is you hear – "runaway cart" every time you play.  To which I reply – "hey it listens to me better than my wife does". :-) I truly believe it is the best money I have spent on a golf item – well perhaps tied with the range finders. One last thing, I have a basket on mine – well worth it and very convenient.  If you want info on where to get one – email me. Well, I got pretty long with this post – hope it helped.
