Boo-hoo becomes Woo-hoo…

Question:

When I tried out a Corvette 5 at guitar center I really loved it. I ended up special ordering a 6 string Corvette. A year later I’m a little wiser. The sound I loved about that bass was more a product of the brand new steel strings. I hated the dead string tone. I’d describe it as hollow. My hands take strings from Growly as a Son of B* to dead in a week. I sold it and ordered a Ken Smith. It should be here any time.

What’s really crazy about the story is that while I was setting it up, I found that the truss rod was stripped – somebody had bought it, screwed it up and then returned it  :-( I took it back and exchanged it for a Thumb Bass…   Among the lightest of basses I’ve played!

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – The Stingray 5 was upgraded last night to a brand-new 5-string Warwick Corvette Standard.  I didn’t have a chance to check a Roscoe Beck because inventory at all of the local shops didn’t include any  :-( But the Corvette sounded really good to me.  It’s a lot darker and warmer than the Stingray, but if I fiddle with the controls, I can get some really bright sounds too.  Overall, I liked it.  I wish they had a couple dozen other 5-strings to try, but it seems that those are always in short supply. Anyway, I’ll play this for a while and see what I think.  I’ve got 30 days to fall in love or else learn to hate it… Thanks for all of the feedback on my other post! Oh, and my wife pointed out that I’d swapped a Stingray for a Corvette… I hadn’t even thought of that…  Kinda strange, no? Mark

and someday, you may learn that you can’t get a Stingray in a Corvette. (‘less ya take the tops off)

Man, I know so little about cars that that one went right over my head   ;-P

;-P My Corvette is so cramped I can’t get any bass in it at all, not even my 32" scale!  The tops on ‘vettes are more often than not, removable.  So, with the tops off, a bass case can stick out of the car from the passengers seat, but there’s no room for the hot babe that someday will leap into my car.  The vette guys told me this will happen. /wonder why they were all snickering?

I know a guy who has to put the top down on his Ferrari – just to fit his golf bag…  I should have such problems!!  ;-) I’d always though that Corvettes had more room than that – but then, I’ve never even sat in one!
