Question:

I’ve never hit a 1-iron, but I’m reminded of an experience I had at RSG-Atlanta this summer.  Bobby Knight, Randy Brown, and I were in a group, and on one long par 3 hole, teeing off, Bobby pulled out his 1-iron (!) and spanked the ball right up to the green.  It was, well, about how anyone would like to hit a 1-iron. I expressed surprise to Bobby that he would hit such a club, and he had an interesting comment about it.  He said that when he first started playing, nobody told him that a 1-iron was hard to play.  So he just learned how to hit it, not knowing that he couldn’t.  :) Mike

Well Mike, I’m now convinced that all of my clubs are hard to hit, so the 1 iron is still one of my best options.   ___,     o        |       /        .
