Disney Golf

Question:

I am coming over to Florida in September 96 for yet another vacation – but I believe that the Disney Classic is held at that time over the Magnolia & Palm Courses. Could anyone give me the dates and if possible alternative courses worth playing within the Orlando area. Many thank Dave J  in UK

Dave,         You needn’t worry about the availability of either course in September. The Disney Oldsmobile Classic is scheduled for October 17-20, 1996. Therefore you can play any of the courses at Disney.         There are alternatives to Disney as well. Grenelefe is a good place to start. The PGA holds Q-school on the West course as well as one of the sites used to qualify for both the US Open and Senior US Open. (The Q-school is held at other sites as well. I meant to say the finals have been held there in the past).         Another really nice course is Falcon’s Fire which is very near Disney. They have held Senior tour qualifing at that course. Both of these sites are affordable for the average player. There is one note of caution though. As the fall approaches the courses in the state start raising prices. Florida’s busiest golf times are in the spring and fall.         There is a web site you can get the particulars of most Florida courses at http://www.gdol.com/course/fl/course.cgi         Grenelefe’s web site is http://www.grenelefe.com/         One top-notch place to play is World Woods which is NOT part of Disney, but located in Brooksville, Florida. It’s maybe 30 to 40 minutes away from Disney. The web site is http://www.students.uiuc.edu/~murray/wwgolf.html         Hope this helps. Ken

The Disney (Oldsmobile)Classic is usually in October. Disney now has 5 courses on property as well. Of Disney, there are several really good courses in the area, if you ahve a car. Here are a few of my favorites. (They are genrally much less expensive TOO) MetroWest in Orlando. Near Universal Studios. Long, With rolling terrain, $50+/- Palisades Country Club. About 20 Miles up US 27 in Clermont. Real Nice, $30 Poinsianna. South of Kissimmee, about 12 miles. Pretty, woodlined, nice folks                about 25-30 dollars Kissimme Country Club. A fairly nice course south of US 192 in Kissimmee. The Oaks. On US 17 South in Kissimmee, Very challenging layout, woods and             water abound. Some really good par fives. Hunters Run. US 441, north of US 192. Long, fairly open course, usually in very             good shape. Kissimmee Bay, Near the Florida Turnpike off US 192. Excellent condition, good              golf test. There are several more, but these are the ones my friends and I play for our semi-annual golf and party trips to Kissimmee. There is also a good deal available on a villa. Two bedroom, two story for 65-70 dollars a night with the right coupons. E-Mail me if you want the details on finding the coupon book.
