Question:
As a grad of Bowling Green Country Club (as my mom calls it), I can say that the golf course there (Forrest Creason) is not as bad as it looks. Albeit, it’s the flattest golf course on the planet. The course can play extremely long on typically windy days, and the conditions are usually above average. Call ahead for tee times – it’s difficult to drop-in and walk on.
You are correct about Forrest Creason being the flattest course on the planet. It would be TOTALLY flat if they didn’t make the hill on #12 from the dirt taken to make the lake. I am pretty sure that’s how it got there. Either that, or just a pile of garbage that has sod on it. Ha! But, yes… it is a fun course. Kurt Thomas, who runs the course, is a good guy. Not much else in BG besides the university… and corn and wheat of course. Ha Ha, just kidding (half-way). David.

Looks like the kid will be going to BGSU (south of Toledo) so since I travel a bit I will stop by there as often as possible to visit. So the question is, What golf courses are worth playing within say a 45 minute drive or so. Yes I know the University has it’s own course, but what else (public)? Just got back from a trip out there, and everything is sooooo _flat_ ! Courses here typically have 50-100 feet elevation changes in each hole. All suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks … John

Also in the area- Riverby Hills is located north of BG, just west of Haskins. It’s a bit hillier than Forrest Creason, extremely long from the tips, good condition, etc. There may be a new course in BG called Stoneridge, perhaps designed by Jerry Matthews. It may be located just north and west of town, otherwise I don’t know anything about it. South of BG in Findlay is Hillcrest, one of my favorites in the area. Its about 25 minutes from BG, adjacent to I-75 (you can see it from I-75). Nice variety of holes, always in great condition. Its worth the drive just to see the proshop – packed to the gills wil clubs and clothes from the 60’s on. There are some decent courses in Toledo, about 30 minutes north of BG. Most notably would be Maumee Bay, a relatively new links-style course close to Lake Erie, north east of Toledo. Check other newsgroups about Toledo courses. Also some great courses in Ann Arbor, MI, 1.25 hrs north of BG – not as far as it sounds. Reply if you want more info. John
