Since I intend to go on a golfing holiday i RSA this fall, I would like to know if anyone had any recommendations on where to stay, play, etc. Thanks in advance, Claus Bo Svendsen Copenhagen Denmark
Claus: Here’s a list of my favorites in no particular order: Johannisberg area: Glendower Golf Club, Houghton Golf Club and Wanderers Golf Club. All private golf clubs. You may need connections to get on. Praetoria: Silver Lakes Golf Club is part of a residential development. Sun City: Gary Player Golf Course and Lost City Golf Course. Both are resort courses at Sun City. Lost City has some similarities to the "desert" courses of the southwestern U.S. plus some of the largest crocodiles I’ve ever encountered. Durban area: Durban Country Club (ranked in the best 100 in the world, a classic. Also a private club, but worth the effort to find entry). Mount Edgecombe Golf Club is part of the residential development 15 – 20 minutes outside Durban. Wild Coast Sun is a spectacular resort course on the Indian Ocean a couple of hours south of Durban. San Lameer is a time-share resort/residential development between Wild Coast and Durban. The golf course seemed more "tropical" than others on this list. Fancourt Country Club is a resort/residential development near the town of George on the southern coast. Gary Player is a partner in the resort and Ernie Els has a home nearby. Lovely 27 holes.
