Question:
In rec.sport.golf I have been hearing a lot about Integra Driver lately from this news grp. How good are they compare to TM, Titleist, callaway etc …? Is there anyone on tour that actually uses them ?
I use an Integra L1 and swear by it. Using 20 identical balls and a laser range finder, I’ve proven that it averages 12 yards longer than my Titleist 975D. The longest drives were over 40 yards longer than the longest 975D drives. On the tour, yes, some pros have used them. The problem is that Integra doesn’t pay. If you look at the mini tours where the guys buy their own sutff, you will see tons of Integras.

I just ordered Integra Viktory with UST ProForce shaft through "http://shop.store.yahoo.com/golfcomponents/" for $145. I am also trying Integra driver for the first time. I hope it lives up to all the reviews is has been getting. I will let you know in a couple of weeks P

I use a 10 deg Integra Super 450 with a 45" UST Proforce 75 R flex shaft. It doesn’t go much farther than my previous 12 deg driver (an aussie brand – PGF with a tiny by comparison steel head) . But in the few rounds I have played with it it doesn’t punish off centre hits. You can hit it on the toe or the heel or the top or the bottom of the face and it still belts down there pretty long and straight.. They probably go about 10-15% shorter distance wise but still straight (well as straight as my normal sweet spot hits go which is either straight or with a little fade.). If I mishit my old driver by the same physical margin on the face the result is often embarrassing. So don’t expect it to add a huge distance to your drives but do expect it to be much more forgiving on less than perfect shots. BTW the shiny titanium face is perfect for diagnosing where you are striking it. Just wipe it with you thumb, sleeve or towel and next hit you’ll have a perfect dimple impression to see where it impacted on the face. Tony

A few points to ponder while one is driver shopping: * The spring effect faces on the high COR also tend to come on heads that are more likely to crack, split, cave-in when hit at higher swing speeds. John Daly once caved in a prototype 6 degree Calloway Big Bertha driver [being modified for him] with his first drive. * The heads better designed to be trampolines are flatter [have less bulge & roll - sometimes none] and therefore are more likely to yield off-line shots when not struck on the sweetspot. A big face does not assure a big swing spot that will keep a ball in the short grass. * Integra has a wide variety of head sizes and styles; they have been used with various success by different golfers. Include the shaft parameters in your mix. Take all testimonials in context! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – How good are they compare to TM, Titleist, callaway etc …?
