Question:
Anybody heard of the Bazooka? I am thinking about picking one up.
Don’t let it get you down. Maybe it’s time to lay off reading RSG for awhile.

Ray Pezzi – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As far as I know, there are three iterations of the Bazooka: the original, the Beta Ti, and the 320J. The 320J is their newest and has gotten alot of good reviews. Anybody heard of the Bazooka? I am thinking about picking one up. I’ve got their Super Spin wedges and Super Soft putter. My only gripe is that I wish the putter came with a cover. I just bought a Tour Edge 3 Wood…….i like it alot. Does anyone know about these clubs?

I’m looking seriously at getting some Tour Edge irons, which I can get at considerably less than list. Fitted to me. Very tempting. 70, and hitting 70? Impressive. Friend of mine, 75, hits his age from time to time. I’m 67, and hitting my age is probably not gonna happen any time soon! So, lessee….the older I get….hmm, this is getting too complicated. Anyhow, thanks for being such a fine role model, Tom. Peter
Hi Peter I first bought a Bazooka in Orlando in 1966 at some Golf Discount outfit (untried) when I was fortunate enough to attend the Masters at Augusta and loved it (the Bazooka and of course the Masters). My first round with it was at the TPC at Sawgrass (a week after the Players Championship) and I shot a 78, but never missed a fairway! On the strength of this I visited the shop again and bought the 5-wood and didn’t have the opportunity to try it out until I got back to New Zealand. I don’t carry it all the time, favouring a 2-iron because NZ is a fairly windy place – ask Bob Charles!!! I got the 3-wood by courier ex-factory last year – and it is excellent! Wouldn’t change it for anything else! Ive seen the Tour Edge irons in Australia and was quite impressed by the look and feel of them, but haven’t tried them. Having them fitted is important – so go ahead and good luck. I changed irons last month from fairly old Tietlist DCI to Callaway – at least a club stronger and effective so far. They have super light-weight steel shafts (I previously had graphite) and I think the new shafts are an improvement. I use Snake Eyes wedges and (currently) Ping Derby putter – which works on and off – you know how it is! My wife is heartily tired of the bundle of old putters in the garage!!! I have a friend who has been a very good golfer and has kept very fit who is now 81 (an ex NZ Open Champion) who beats his age frequently. He says the older you get, the easier it gets – hehehe. So long and cheers Tom Fialca

I bought a Bazooka driver in 1996 without trial on the basis that it looked and felt great – and so it proved. I now also have the 3 and 5 fairway woods. Ive trialed other popular makes but they are no longer and less accurate than the Bazooka. The price for these Tour Edge clubs is very good also. I would not swap them. They are not sold in my country (New Zealand) but I got my 3-wood on mail order from the company in the USA very quickly and efficiently using their website. (I am a low handicap senior – equalled my age this year.) Fialca

No – seriously I am 70 – will be 71 in November and play off 4. I reckon I might be off 6 or 7 without my Bazookas! My name is Tom – the NG name is my wife’s. Fialca

Tour Edge is located here in Illinois; at least it was when I last looked. I think they are just over there a piece in Elgin or St. Charles. They have a pretty good following around these parts and I assumed they were gaining in national attention. They seem to make a pretty good set of irons, and their "woods" seem to do the job, too. I believe I heard the guy who started the company used to be with Ram. Or was that the guy who started Vulcan (another good name here in Illinois). I have some experience that is relevant. I don’t work for them and this is my opinion only. They have a web site, also in case you didn’t know. I have a complete set (irons, 3 and 5 wood, but I already had a driver) that I got custom made for me almost two years ago. They only make custom made clubs and it only takes a couple of weeks to get them. I’m pretty happy with them and they are not too expensive. The golf course (Heron Lakes, Portland) was offering free fittings and that was the low price choice. Mine are slightly longer than standard, and the lie angle, shaft flex, and grip size are all chosen based on my swing. My game has improved some since I got the clubs, but I’ve also had some lessons and been playing more. — Mike Bowen Remove NOSPAM for email

Long, sure… but be honest… … it is a little erratic, correct? Not too different than a 975D, IMHO. I have been evangelizing about these clubs since I got a 3 and 5 woods a couple of years ago. They felt better than the big name clubs I test drove. B. J. Wilkinson
