The best and worst gloves I've ever tried.

Question:

For those of you who still wear gloves, here’s my collective experience after 2 years of duffing: 1.  Mizuno All Weather.  These are the toughest gloves I’ve ever tried. [...]

I’m sold on WeatherSofts.  Great feel.  They have a tendency to lose their palm pads, or at least with my grip I sometimes "pinch" the pad off the glove with a mishit if I’m holding the club a little too loosely.  I just tear the flap of leather off and keep playing … haven’t worn one completely out yet, despite 1k+ balls and 36+ holes per week.         -joseph

Response:

Very interesting information about the gloves, Fish… Here’s my 2 cents… Foot Joy WeatherSoft (synthetic).  Best glove on the market. I used to swear by the Daiwa glove until Foot Joy came out with this synthetic glove.  It seems to last longer, and I like the fit.

Seconded!!! The only glove I’ve found that actually fits snugly round the wrist (ie the velcro comes together perfectly with the glove snug). Usually the velcro on other gloves overlaps by at least half its width. Perhaps I’ve got thin wrists? Also hard wearing and comfortable. SteveR

Dear joseph,         I love the FJ Sta Sof (?) and when they start to get a little slick on the heel pad of my hand, I apply some ’sticky stuff’ that I keep in a tiny jar in my golf bag.  Somehow, this ’stuff’ grips the club & protects the glove at the same time.  I don’t know what it’s called which is why I call it sticky stuff. Tried em for a few months but the synthetics are much more up my alley.  Most of the other synthetics I’ve used sucked, although I used a Hogan that was OK.  The Foot-Joy synthetic is miles beyond anything else I’ve tried.         -joseph

The Tommy Armour leather glove is by far the best I have tried. I used the same one all summer and it wore out before it ever became crusty. Just make sure you take it out of your pants pocket before you send them through the laundry. John

Has anyone tried the Nike glove?

I tried the synthetic (it looks sort of like terry cloth).  It lasted about 5 rounds.  My advice is the Tommy Armour glove.  It stays supple and lasts forever. Andy

I’ve been using one for about two months. It’s still soft and fits well. The Nike glove has  a thicker palm than any other glove I"ve used. That’s a welcome feature for me, as I usually wear out my gloves where my palm pad is. The glove is not cheap –about $16 but well worth it IMO. Regards, Petemoss

But I’ve never heard of anyone WASHING their golf gloves.  Let alone having their wife sew up the seams. No, wait.  Come to think of it, when my friend and I first took up the game some 15 years ago, he took his glove (leather) home and washed it once. Then, he stuck it in the microwave to dry it… The damn thing shrunk to the size that would only fit a Barbie doll.  Or an "Arnie Action Figure."   ;-) Randy For those of you who still wear gloves, here’s my collective experience after 2 years of duffing: 1.  Mizuno All Weather.  These are the toughest gloves I’ve ever tried. Bought one 9 months ago.       Wash them after every round and air dry them in my bathroom.  I use it in the driving range       (1 or 2 times per week) and play a round on Saturdays.  The seams have held.  Holds up       pretty well even when it rains buckets.  Bought a spare a month ago and still haven’t used it       because the older one just won’t give! 2.  Reebok All Weather.  Forget it!  used it once in the driving range and the finish on the glove have      started to peel.  Don’t buy it. 3.  The Paw (Lynx).  Good  fit and feel.  Didn’t last very long.  Had them for a month. 4.  Titelist Perma Grip.  All weather glove.  Good for 2 months tops.  Seam on left index finger was      first to go.  Had used 2 pairs. 5.  Callaway.  Used it in the range twice and in 2 rounds.  Seam along life line was first to go.  Had       my wife sew it up and it’s been holding up since.  Can’t wash it though as it gets crusty like       pork rind. 6.  Mizuno Graflex.  Don’t buy this.  Doesn’t last as long as their All Weather.  Lasted for 3 weeks.       Gets crispy after washing and drying. Hope this helps. Hory Hory & Annabelle  Aycardo Fishing, diving and golf….3 great reasons to consider retirement at age 40.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE PURCHASE THE MIZUNO GRAF LEX GLOVE ALTHOUGH IT LOOKS NICE AND FEELS GOOD WHEN IT IS NEW, IT WILL ONLY LAST 2-3 WEEKS IF YOU PLAY A FAIR AMOUNT OF GOLF.  I HAVE BEEN THROUGH THREE GLOVES SINCE MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND ALL HAVE HUGE TEARS IN THE HEELPAD. STICK TO THE FOOTJOY STA_SOF MODELS OR THE SLAZENGER GLOVES SOLD AT PRO_SHOPS. BOB
