Strata Tour Ultimate 2

Question:

I noticed a local golf shop has these on for $29.99/dozen CDN, which is $10 off regular price if not more. I’ve played the Callaway CB1 Blue(which I love), the Strata Tour Professional 90 and am actually having a little success with the Strata Professional Distance(gift from gf who didn’t know which ball I played)..and am wondering how the TU2 compares?  AM I losing distance off any of the three?  I hear it’s a pretty soft ball.. Please note I have no experience with Tour Ultimate, so please avoid that comparison as I would have no clue about which you refer. Thanks

Hi Pat Some advice I was given about golf balls. They do make a difference to your game. The choice of balls really depends on your handicap. Distance concerns and distance balls may give and extra few metres, but it is only worth using these if you are a good enough golfer to be able to reach a par 5 in 2. If not, then go for the softer ball, as they help more around the greens, where most of us who cant drive 300m, gain or lose shots. Do try putting with them though as some are so soft they feel weird off the face of the putter. I too use a Callaway CB1 red ball and love them. I love the blue ones more, but can;t get them on special like the red ones!

Being a "softer" ball will not, in itself, cause you to lose distance. "Softer" refers to the feeling you get when you strike the ball.  It may, in fact, give you greater distance or, at least, straighter flight.  A soft ball will compress more when struck, thereby staying on the face of your club a bit longer than a hard ball  that doesn’t compress as much. This is what makes the Pro V1 feel great, provide straight distance off long clubs, and yet spin like mad with short clubs. Staying on the club face promotes "more" spin if the grooves have a greater opportunity to effect the ball flight.

Check out the ball article in Golf Digest July 02. My understanding is that:      the lower the compression (softer core) =  less spin      The softer the cover =  more spin My feeling is that most players of all levels can benefit more from INCREASED spin to stop on the greens rather than trying to get a few more yards off the tee. I now take a longer iron as I go for the green because I am confident that the ball will stop more quickly and not roll off the back. I can make the Stratas back up on short approach shots. Haven’t done that since I was in college, 30 years ago  I LOVE!! the Strata balls. They have the softest covers out there. Campy                  or

yeah INCREASED spin is great…INCREASED spin into the woods, INCREASED spin into the dam, INCREASED spin out of bounds, INCREASED spin onto the next door fairway.  Vive le INCREASED spin..  :-) Tony – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My feeling is that most players of all levels can benefit more from INCREASED spin to stop on the greens rather than trying to get a few more yards off the tee.
