Question:
From the Callaway web site: "How are the designs of the Steelhead Plus and Steelhead drivers and fairway woods different?" "The Steelhead Plus woods are designed to truly optimize ball launch conditions in a stainless steel wood. The center of gravity is repositioned to create an even higher launch angle with a lower backspin rate. The result is a penetrating, powerful ball flight with the driver and excellent distance control with all of the fairway woods." They also talk about the VFT (Variable Face Thickness) technology, which I believe is different than the original. And the design and color scheme is a little different on the Plus (nice dark blue). I love the look and feel of the SH Plus woods. Too expensive for me right now (I have used Orlimars instead), but if I could afford it I would definitely try one of the fairway woods. Rob – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – …is there any significant difference between the Steelhead and Steelhead Plus? I have my eye on a new SH Plus 3-wood for $239 (which I have hit and liked very much), but have seen a regular Steelhead 3-wood for $100 (used) at my local golf equipment reseller.
Response:
….that’s good information – thanks! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – There is quite a bit of difference. They are fitted with different shafts and the heads use a different alloy of steel. The original Steelhead has been known to crack the face with some strong hitters. The Plus also uses the " variable face thickness" technology employed on the more expensive Hawkeye VFT to increase distance..
