Starting a league, need software

Question:

Does anybody know where I can get software that can be used to calculate team scores for use in league play? I’m in the process of starting a league where I work and don’t want to have to write a whole bunch of software if there an easier way to get it. What I’m looking for is something that 1)   can be educated about the details of the course, 2)   takes individual scores per hole, 3)   adjusts them down to some max per hole based on handicap (not necessarily USGA         handicaps), 4)   calculates points won by each team 5)   determines team standings Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. thanx, Dave Snay

Dave, We suggest that you visit our home page at http://www.northernsystems.com and download a 30 day evaluation copy of our Handicap Manager for Windows, U.S. League Edition or Canadian League Edition. Handicap Manager for Windows stores up to 1000 rounds of golf per golfer, and stores up to 255 course definitions.  It also tracks many relevant statistics if you choose to enter golf scores in detail.  When you load the evaluation copy you will discover that it also has many other useful club features such as the ability to print member address labels and handicap cards on standard Avery laser forms allowing your club to pre-print the front of the handicap card with course or club specific information before printing the member specific handicap information on the back of the card. If your league chooses to allow members to enter their own scores, Handicap Manager for Windows contains all of the security features required.  Each member can maintain his/her own unique password to ensure that members enter only their own scores.  The system administrator can also maintain a password to ensure that members are not able to modify the configuration of the system. The League Editions of Handicap Manager for Windows have the capability to score member tournaments using any one of several formats.  If you operate a number of tournaments which also include non members, we suggest that you also consider our popular Handicap Manager for Windows, Tournament Edition.  Our Tournament Edition can perform tournament scoring by a variety of methods including Gross Scores, Net Scores, Callaway, several variations of Stableford, Modified Peoria, the World Golf Federation’s Daily Equalizer, our own Northern Nine, 2 or 4 man Best Ball (gross or net), and Scramble.  The Tournament Edition can exchange information directly with the Professional Editions eliminating the need for re-entry of scores. Handicap Manager for Windows has been certified by the RCGA for use by golf courses in Canada which comply with the RCGA Handicap System. Although no equivalent certification program exists in the United States, we do have written permission from the USGA to use their handicap system in our software and our U.S. Editions fully comply with the USGA Handicap System. U.K. and Australian Editions of Handicap Manager are also available.   Handicap Manager for Windows League Editions can be purchased for approximately $US 44.95 by mail using a cheque or money order or approximately $CA 62.95 using your VISA or MasterCard. We hope this information is helpful in your search for handicapping software for your league.  If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. Sincerely, John D. Hutton Northern Systems Inc.
