http://www.golfonline.com/ and other sites frequently do feature articles on equipment. The pro shop linked to golfonline has an equipment review forum, where customers post their preferences and reviews of equipment. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an expert columnist write critical equipment reviews or critical comparisons between brands – I doubt that you’ll find an article which objectively concludes, for example, that the new Callaways are better than the new Titleists. The name-brand clubs are generally of high quality and well-engineered, and the differences are largely a matter of preference. My experience has been that the best way to choose an iron set is to go to a golf shop that has demo sets you can rent and try for a weekend, so that you can try several brands and find which you prefer. Some will deduct the demo rental fees from the purchase price when you do decide. I would also suggest custom-fitting. Ultimately, getting the right shaft length and flex, the right lie angle, the right grip size, and so on is probably more important than the difference between the brand names. Before you buy.
