Phil's Putter

Question:

John Shoemaker wrote… They knocked off my original design concept of my M1 putter physics. www.millenniumputter.com

Amazing… they both look exactly the same.  Yup yup. Gary

Response:

Appendix II – Design of Clubs, Section 4-a does say plain in shape. It also says  "Exceptions may be made for putters." So your argument is not that the USGA violated the rule, but rather made an exception you don’t agree with. Your privilege, their nickel. Them patient infringements can be a real pain in the ass.

I had an appointment with the staff proctologist yesterday. Ouch ! I should have gone to one who used his finger. Thanks, I’ll be here all week.  Tip your waitresses… —       http://www.rec-sport-golf.com/members/?rollcall=hayesd Troll Intolerant: http://rec-sport-golf.com/newsgroup/philosophy.html      sory bro, What’s PI you talking about? bit lost here.      Is it a video tape? regards, R               — A Perfect Impact Testimonial

I had MANY designs refused due to this. My heads fit the measurements but was refused due to "plain" in shape. And ask any lawyer about "plain" and you will get the same answer. Well, its how they feel that morning. Scotty Cameron should get no more of a break than john doe, especially for a man whom stole the ping design and milled it. Know fact, Mr. Karsten sued Scotty Cameron many years back. Matter of fact, ol Scotty had many in line doing so due to patient infringements. I hate seeing the USGA changing there "plain" interpretation. They clearly said to me, if it doesn’t look like a mallet, blade or rail, it isn’t getting approved. Neither the 2-ball or this new looking putter Phil is using falls under any of the three styles, BUT, it might if enough cash is pushed under the table. This golf business has been very good to me the last couple years. And i have done it fairly and honestly, by the books and rules, just wish the USGA would not be so wishy washy. How they ever got this approved with the USGA is criminal! Well, Jeff, it probably fits the specs required, i.e. the width of the face is greater than the front-to-back length.  It sure doesn’t look like it in the pictures, but I’m willing to hazard a guess that Scotty Cameron doesn’t fool around with USGA regulations regarding putter dimensions.  Just a guess, though…I truly don’t know, and haven’t seen one in person.  When I do, however, I’ll be sure to measure the sucker. By the way, the Callaway 2-ball just barely fits the requirements, by a few millimeters, IIRC. Peter

Would you care to elaborate as to why you believe the putter is not legal? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – How they ever got this approved with the USGA is criminal!

Response:

It’s still in prototype stage.  I first saw it in Vancouver at the Air Canada Championship (in Mike Hulbert’s bag).  Word is it’ll soon be available.  You can already find some on e-Bay, though you’ll pay an arm and a leg ($2K or more for the prototypes). Randy

Looks like it! Wonder how much does it cost? Was it this one?  (I didn’t see it.)

It’s called the "Garden Weasle".  It can also be used as a branding iron. Just joking.  It’s a new Scotty Cameron model. Kenny — Kenny Stultz Troll and Spam Intolerant RSG Rollcall: http://www.rec-sport-golf.com/members/?rollcall=stultzk
