New shafts for GBB driver

Question:

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I am looking for a new shaft for my old Callaway GBB and am considering the: Grafalloy Prolite 35 Grafalloy Prolite Elite Graphite Design YS-6. Does anyone have experience with all 3 of these shafts so they can offer "compare and contrast" feedback. The original shaft on the GBB was a Callaway BB UL regular flex made by Graphite Design. The shaft plays very stiff, feels harsh and stiff in the tip. Apparently, Graphite Design shafts have improved since supplying this one to Callaway in 1994. I am looking for a "softer" playing shaft, the loft on the driver head is 11 degrees so getting the ball in the air is not an issue. Thanks in advance. Let the experts speak!

My previous driver was a GBB with a Prolite35, it served me well. Can’t compare it to the others, unfortunately. I’d be surprised if it is "softer" than the stock UL regular, tho… JL

I have NOT tried any of the shafts you mention, BUT I DID reshaft with a UST Proforce 65 with a stiff tip and found it a joy. Sorry to add to your confusion… Russ

I also put in a UST ProForce 65 R flex in my GBB. Much better than the BBUL. The BBUL "firm" flex was not very stiff, however. They must have added the viagra later…no wait, I got mine later than 1994, so they must have stopped adding it….in any event, the ProForce 65 R flex was about as firm as the BBUL "firm" flex. I’ve had a GBB or two with the Prolite 35.  Good shaft.  I used the Prolite in several Titleists — I preferred it over EI-70, ProForce, and Aldila HM series —  and I have a ProLite 35 in my driver now (KZG) as well as a Prolite FW in my 3-wood. They are very good shafts. I would guess, though, that you’d be better off going with a Prolite 45 (instead of the 35) in R or A flex. — Ron Blanchard http://rec-sport-golf.com/members/?rollcall=blanchardr *** Troll and SPAM intolerant *** "Golfers are meant to suffer."  -  Ian MacCallister

I use a UST ProForce 65 R flex with a Payer’s Softie Midsize—to defend against stray dogs while I take my afternoon walk.  I had to whack one on the nose the other day.  Short back swing and plenty of wrist.  That’s one dog that ain’t bugin me no mo! I used to have it on a Bang Dark Matter 400cc driver–couldn’t hit it to save my life. I think the bottom line with these shafts was quality control.  My "Firm" measured at 7.0.  Or maybe it was due to big differences in head weight, who knows.
