Golf in Vegas – help!

Question:

I’m headed for Las Vegas in a couple of weeks and need some suggestions on courses. I played Angel Park, the last time I was there .. nice course and a reasonable(?) price. Played a couple of courses at St. George and got spoiled. Would like suggestions on reasonable courses, but more on the ‘inexpensive’ side. Thanks, David

Unfortunately, there are NO courses worth playing here that are under $100 for out-of-state visitors.  All courses (with the exception of Craig Ranch, Las Vegas Golf Club and Desert Rose) are generally $110-$170 per round.  The three courses I mentioned that are about $50-60 for out-of-state visitors and are really bad muni-courses.  The courses are boring and in pretty bad shape. I you can spend $100-$175 per round, the Vegas can offer some good courses. However, if you really don’t want to spent that kind of money, then I would suggest that you don’t play while you are here. Here are some suggestions: Primm is one of the best in the area. Awesome! Both the Lakes and Desert Courses are magnificent Tom Fazio designs.  A good hour drive south of town. Also check out: Pauite – both courses – about 20-30 min.s northwest of town. Sun City Summerlin – Palm Valley and Highland Falls. The two best kept secretes in town. If you don’t mind paying the price, there are great! Also consider: Reflection Bay at Lake Las Vegas (Nicklaus design) Awesome course. $175 green fees! Water comes into play on 16 holes. Rio Secco Was formerly known as Seven Hills until Rio Hotel and Casino purchased course. Great Course but WAY WAY WAY overpriced at $300 a round. Rhodes Ranch Ok course. Nothing spectacular Course was in awful shape this summer and had some problem with grass disease.  It is suppose to be in better shape now. – Dave "If a man stands in the middle of the forest speaking and there is no woman around to hear him,  Is he still wrong?"  Jack Handy

Hi David, In my opinion, don’t bother with the "Divine Nine" nine hole pitch and putt at the Callaway Golf Center.  When I played there, the tee boxes were a mess.  Also $30 for a nine hole par three couse is just way too much to ask. I was in Vegas for New Years and played Paiute. Right in the middle of nowhere is this beautiful Pete Dye course (actually 2 courses). Extremely well kept fairways, hard greens. The only problem was the wind. 40-50mph. The greens were so hard the balls often blew right off. It will take 5 or 6 holes to get used to the wind so keep that in mind if you are concerned about green fees. You will need your A-game this time of year. At least it wasn’t hot. I would definitely go back. Badlands is also nice if you like target golf. For instance one hole you hit driver, sand-wedge, then 7-iron. A lot of fun. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Primm is one of the best in the area. Awesome!
