Borethru plug for steel shaft?

Question:

I am reshafting a Callaway Tuttle putter and do not know what to do about the plug in the end of the shaft. I have found plugs for in the tips of graphites, and plugs that make it a blindbore head, but no plugs for steel shafts (you would think there would be a market, since these are needed for BB irons and steel woods). Does anyone know where I can get these? Can I save the current one? How? Should I call Callaway? Thaanks in advance, Josh Hi Josh,

Visit my web page for some notes on shafting Callaway clubheads.  Buddy is right, is is epoxy, but the material you mix into the epoxy is called "paint dispersion."  My clubmaking notes will give you some step by step instructions and if you have any questions, drop an e-mail.                 http:www3.htp.netsteveggolfgolf.htm Joe Gilliard GolfCraft

Josh, I usually use tapered wooden dowels… available from GolfWorks, and GolfSmith the red/black ‘fluid flow’ plugs may work as well… — |                                                                    |                  db miko           Mac Shack Golf    PCS-Class A Clubmaker  London, Ontario, CANADA

Josh – The plug that you are seeing is actually epoxy.  Although I’ve never reshafted a tuttle putter, I’ve reshafted a jillion callaway’s with the Memphis 10 shaft.  The procedure that I use is as follows: 1. Drill out the plug. 2. Heat a hot rod to cherry red and spend many frustrating minutes removing the head. 3. Insert a cork down the shaft to within about 1.5" from the tip. 4. Either mix together a black insert epoxy, or mix regular epoxy with a black diffusing agent. 5. Pour the goop in the tip end of the shaft and allow to harden. 6. Use the removed shaft as a guide to get the angle right on the new shaft. 7. Finally, prepare the tip of the new shaft, abrading, etc and finish the job. Hope that this helps Buddy Cotten Four Par Golf Covington, Louisiana
