Biggest Big Bertha: What is the head volume?

Question:

<snip… | As far as UL shafts go, does anyone have any recommendations on biggest | bang for the $ in the UL (< 70 gram) range? I am interested in an S or | X flex since according to the swing analyser I am still in the 115 MPH | range with the driver. I plan to build my test club at 46" or 45" and | trim it down if I don’t like the way it plays at the longer length. | I put a Grafalloy Pro-Lite in my driver.  It turned my driving around. I was ready to shell out the bucks for a GBB, but decided to try the Grafalloy stiff shaft first (I replaced a UST ‘firm’ shaft which was actually measured at Golfsmith as a regular shaft). I went 45", on a Knight driver head (an original BB-like head), and after a few hits with it – forgot all about the GBB. The one complaint I do have is that I hit the driver a lot higher than I used to (10.5 degree loft), and in the Texas winds that isn’t too desireable.  Now I am having trouble finding a lower lofted left-handed driver head (I would like an 8-9 degree head) to put on the Grafalloy shaft. Cheers! — Nortel – Richardson, Texas *standard disclaimers, etc., etc.

I have a similar problem. My current driver has the 9.5 degree Mercury Titan head (250 cc – stainless steel). I find that I hit it as high as my 10 degree Bertha. I am considering my options including the Golfsmith Grand Titanium (9 degree), the XPC Plus (8 degree) and the Titanium 260(8 degree – 260 cc – $125 price tag). Let us know what you try and how it works. I would like to beat this Texas wind also.

I reshafted a TA 855 driver last year with the Grafalloy Prolite. At 65 grams and ~$40 US I think its a good value. Like you intend, I left it at 46" as a trial thinking I’d cut as required. Well its been in play at least 35 rounds and I have no intention of trimming. I swing a little slower than you (102-104 on a Bel swing mate) and recently had my clubs fitted. The shaft frequency at that length was 244 and I was advised I should be playing the X stiffness. Innovative also seems to have lightweight shafts, reasonably priced and listed torque appears to be lower. Good luck Dave Stephen

Since you already have all of these options available to you, I might ask that you let us know how it works…  I have to wait until (if they ever do) come out with the lower lofted heads for lefties.  I am hoping that they come out with the 8 degree Titanium 260 for lefties, but since the right handed one just came out (or is it even out yet – March was supposed to be when it was made available), I suspect that it won’t be at least another 6 months for me (and by then the winds will be down somewhat!). I had a chance to swing a BBB at the Golf show on Friday and was curious if anyone out there know what the head specs are for the driver (mass and volume)? I checked the Callaway page and they don’t have the numbers that I could see. It was surprisingly easy to hit even at the 46" length. This has started me to think of building a test club with an UL shaft this spring. I also had a chance to hit the TA Ti100s. Really big clubs. The one iron would be nice to have as an alternative to the driver.  There was sand on the mats so I was able to generate the sparks that others have reported here. I felt the size on the lower irons to be distracting though and for $1700 (Can) I don’t want to be distracted.
