Question:
Playing yesterday evening, I lined up my drive on the 18th, took out my Callaway Biggest Big Bertha, and hit my drive, as the club head made contact, i’m convinced I saw an orange spark come off the club face. The light was fading, so whether this happens every time, but in bright light it’s not noticeable, i’m not sure. Has anyone else experienced this, or was I seeiong things. Also what could cause this to happen?
Response:
Do it with my Ti1 all the time…or at least I used to…. Do you use a harder ball like a top-flite? It happened most often when using those type of balls. from http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/features/1998/weekly/980223/gp0223/c… Reckless Driver: Many golfers have noticed that titanium drivers tend to strike sparks when they brush against rough or sandy soil. "Titanium is flammable," says Clay Long, vice president of research at Cobra Golf. "What happens is that a little bit of the metal at the surface actually burns." Long warns users not to practice their swings at the gas station or anywhere else near combustible fumes. "That wouldn’t be smart at all," he says. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Playing yesterday evening, I lined up my drive on the 18th, took out my Callaway Biggest Big Bertha, and hit my drive, as the club head made contact, i’m convinced I saw an orange spark come off the club face. I’ve seen plenty of others that do too. Also seen it from titanium Taylor Mades. Interestingly enough, I’ve never seen a spark from a titanium Titleist driver. Dean… I believe it helps the tee box absorb a little more water so that the time they spend watering the area produces better results. RJ … PS… I often see sparks from my titanium drivers. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – My GBB was sparking like crazy yesterday evening. I’ve always assumed it was the titanium hiting the sand on the teebox. (BTW, why do they sand the tee box every now and then? What does it do?) —–= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =—– http://www.newsfeeds.com – The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! —–== Over 80,000 Newsgroups – 16 Different Servers! =—–
